LUMBER BRIDGE — Hundreds of Mountaire Farms employees will be volunteering Saturday to make sure needy families in North Carolina have a Thanksgiving meal.

The employees will be packing 7,500 boxes, each with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for a family, as part of the Thanksgiving for Thousands event. Each box will include a Mountaire Farms plump chicken roaster, corn, string beans, yams, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix and a brownie mix for dessert.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs through 1 p.m.

“This event grows every year and we are so proud of our team for leading this huge community effort,” said Phil Plylar, president of Mountaire Farms. “Our company has always been involved in feeding people, but it’s especially meaningful for everyone to come together to help out during the holiday season.”

Various community organizations and churches will pick up the food boxes and distribute them to families in need. Boxes this year will be distributed at 9 a.m. at Mountaire’s Lumber Bridge facility on Saturday and in Siler City at First Baptist Church, across from City Hall, on Tuesday..
