FAIRMONT — Three holiday parades will take to the streets this weekend with the town of Fairmont leading the pack on Friday.
The Fairmont parade will be part of the 12th annual Holiday on Main, which will begin at 6 p.m. with a tree-lighting ceremony in Community Park. The Twilight Christmas Parade will follow at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street. Units will include bands, floats, pageant queens and Christmas scenes that will cast a holiday glow along the street.
The Heritage Center will be the setting for holiday entertainment starting at 7:30 p.m. Town Commissioner Charles Kemp will emcee the event that includes soloists Sarah Davis, Lauren Miller, Madelyn Evans and Kathy Floyd; choirs from the South Robeson High School JROTC, Rosenwald and Long Branch Elementary schools; and an appearence by the Fairmont Festival queen and her court. The festivities also will feature hot chocolate and Santa Claus.
There will be Christmas parades in Marietta and St. Pauls on Saturday.
Marietta’s 32nd annual Christmas Parade will start at 11 a.m. There will be food, entertainment, a raffle and an auction immediately after the parade at the Marietta Community Building.
The 62nd annual St. Pauls Christmas Parade, sponsored by the St. Pauls Chamber of Commerce, will start at 3 p.m. The parade will begin at Old Stage Road and move to Maple Street.
Three more parades are scheduled to run next week:
— The Pembroke Twilight Christmas Parade will be on Thursday. The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and will end at Pembroke Elementary School. Lineup is at 3:30 p.m.
— The Christmas in Red Springs event is set for Dec. 8. The parade begins at 3 p.m. For more information, contact the Red Springs Arts Council at [email protected] or call Maggy Morley at 910-988-1315.
