LUMBERTON — The Public Schools of Robeson County has scheduled its second Day of Caring and Sharing event for Friday.

The event, open to the public, will take place 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Events Center, located at 1027 U.S. 74 in Lumberton. Free clothing, school supplies, personal hygiene items, books, toys, household items, cleaning supplies and food will be offered as ling as they last.

Amy Haigler, Parent-Student Center coordinator, said she is thankful for donors and friends from around the nation who have supported the district during the months after Hurricane Florence struck.

“We know there are still a lot of needs,” she said. “We are hopeful our families who were impacted by the storm will come out on Friday to the event for assistance of various kinds.”

The event will be set up similar to a store with three departments. Visitors must register upon entry and will be given a shopping pass.

The school district hosted a similar event after Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Almost 1,000 people came out that day looking for assistance.
