School board among four meetings scheduled for next week

LUMBERTON — Three governing boards and the Public Schools of Robeson County’s Board of Education are scheduled to meet next week.

The Public Schools of Robeson County Board of Education will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting will be closed to the public to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but can be accessed by using the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB-6SnADcq0&feature=youtu.be.

The agenda includes discussions about curriculum, student health and safety, and updates to the school system’s reentry plan, testing and accountability and policies.

The Rowland Board of Commissioners has scheduled a meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Hall meeting chambers. The commissioners will consider a resolution asking the General Assembly to amend the town’s charter, giving them the authority to appoint a commissioner to the board in the event a seat has become vacant before end of a commissioner’s term.

The commissioners also will discuss a rental property owned by the town, hear details of a conflict between two skilled gaming businesses and consider hiring a grants administrator.

Rowland Town Hall is located at 202 W. Main St.

On Wednesday, members of Lumberton City Council will meet at 11 a.m. in City Hall, located at 500 N Cedar St.

The meeting will be livestreamed on the City of Lumberton 911 Emergency Services Facebook page.

Among items to be discussed are a public hearing on a request for a rezoning petition and a conditional use permit that will allow Chickenfoot Solar LLC to rezone a portion of property on Lovette Road to operate a community or regional utility facility/solar farm. Another hearing will be held on a request for a contiguous annexation by Beth Hunt, general manager for CMH Home Inc., for property located at 6684 N.C. 41 North.

Also to be discussed are a request to assist N.C. Baptists on Mission with paving the parking lot at 141 Avent Road, and approval of funding to help Lumberton High School Athletic Department and the softball team renovate dugouts, among other items.
