LUMBERTON — A Shannon man wanted in relation to a Thursday shooting that left another Shannon man dead and that man’s mother seriously injured was arrested Friday evening.

Donald Ray McMillian, 46, was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies, according the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. The charges are in relation to the death of Clayton Cummings, 25, and the assault of Janie Cumming, 41, both of Shannon. The shooting and assault are the result of a domestic dispute.

McMillian was placed in the custody of the Robeson County Detention Center without bond, according to the RCSO.

Deputies responded about 10:20 p.m. Thursday to 1248 Morgan J. Road in Shannon in reference to a subject shot, according to the RCSO. Upon arrival, deputies found Clayton Cummings deceased. Janie Cummings was also located at the residence. She had suffered serious injuries from being assaulted.

The case was investigated by Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division.
