LUMBERTON —The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for Robeson County for 2-8 a.m. on Friday.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as the upper 20s are expected early Friday morning, prompting a warning for resident to take the following action:

NWS forecasters aid residents should take steps now to “protect tender plants from the cold.”

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes residents should wrapped, drain or allow water to drip slowly.

Additional, forecasters said residents with in-ground sprinkler systems, should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Outdoor pets and livestock should be cared for during extreme weather condition, according to the warning issued early Thursday.

Drivers should also be aware of patchy areas of frost on roads and bridges.

Historically, Robeson County has seen cold weather during this time of year, but the temperature would need to drop below 20 degrees before breaking the record set on the same day in 2014.

The average low for this week is 41.6 degrees.
