LUMBERTON- Robeson Community College (RCC) held its first “I’m Next!” event on June 11.
Thirty-five new students enrolled in classes. All attendees either started or finished their FAFSA applications.
According to RCC’s financial aid office, despite a nationwide decline in FAFSA completion of about 20-30%, RCC has received about 50 more FAFSA’s than at the same point last year. They said they have awarded over $4 million in aid so far, including the NC Next Scholarship.
“We are excited about our events and the chance to increase our enrollment,” Cheryl Hemric, RCC staff, said.
NextNC provides scholarship funds to students whose annual household income is under $80k. Students attending community colleges are guaranteed at least $3,000, enough to cover full-time tuition and most, if not all, other necessary fees.
RCC will host two more “I’m Next!” events from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 25 and July 18. Those interested in attending RCC are encouraged to attend.
