FAIRMONT 一 The town JOBS team met Monday.

New Member

The JOBS team welcomed a new member, Channing Jones, the economic development director of Robeson County. Jones intends to help the team streamline its goals, work toward becoming an official team, and be eligible to receive funding to implement its ideas.

Job fair

The next Fairmont job fair will be on August 21. The JOBS team has implemented a new strategy to get the word out. Several Fairmont businesses, such as Fairmont Pizza, will be giving out fliers with information up until the date of the event to encourage those who are seeking employment to attend.

The job fair will begin at 10 a.m. in the Fairmont Heritage Center.

Wastewater and town planning

Town Manager Jerome Chestnut said he plans to meet with his team to figure out how to get qualified people working in the wastewater treatment plants, as applicants need to be licensed to work in sanitation.

The downtown streetscape project will be put up for public comment a second time in September before the final design is sent for approval and a plan is made to make the proposed changes to downtown Fairmont.

The next JOBS meeting will be on Sept. 9.
