LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protective Services will host a “2nd Annual Wag-O-Ween” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
“A free ‘Empty the Shelter’ event will take place as well,” according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, which manages the animal shelter. “And we hope you will tour the facility and pick out a loving fur-ever pet to take home.
Vouchers for spay and neutering will be available.
The free event will include hot dogs, chips, drinks and a tour of the recently remodeled, refreshed and rearranged Animal Shelter.
The event is being held at the Animal Protective Services Center at 255 Landfill Road off of NC Highway 20, east of St. Pauls.
Visitors will “see some of your favorite deputies and Animal Protective Services staff, along with a special appearance of Deputy Dawg,” accrding to theSheriff’s Office.
“In an effort to keep the animal shelter free of disease and below maximum allowable residency, we are offering this free event to clear the shelter,” said Sheriff Burnis Wilkins. “Euthanizing animals for the sake of space is something I don’t feel comfortable with, and I ask for the public’s assistance in eliminating that possibility. We have been successful over the past year in reducing euthanasia and we are no longer the leading county in the state for this.
“Please consider adding a pet to your family, take a tour, and let’s see if we can help,” Wilkins said. Thanks, everyone.
