Community leaders, local businesses and educators came together Wednesday at Robeson Community College for an Apprenticeship Luncheon.

LUMBERTON — Robeson Community College hosted an Apprenticeship Luncheon on Wednesday in celebration of National Apprenticeship Day.

The event brought together community leaders, local businesses and educators to discuss the future of workforce development and the role that apprenticeships play in shaping a stronger, more prepared workforce.

Held on the campus of Robeson Community College, the luncheon served as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and shared vision. Speakers and attendees shared success stories, best practices and insights into building effective partnerships between education and industry.

Attendees shared their insight into the apprenticeship initiative. Lara Bell Johnson, recruitment and retention specialist at UNC Health Southeastern highlighted key traits for successful apprentices, stating they include “passion, the desire to learn, professionalism and an overall positive attitude.”

Channing Jones, chief executive officer at Lumbee Tribal Holdings Inc., added that skilled applicants must also demonstrate a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and strong interpersonal skills to succeed.

The event featured remarks from RCC leadership, local industry partners and apprenticeship program participants, all of whom emphasized the value of hands-on training.

Seth Bullard, guest speaker, a graduate of RCC and named ApprenticehipNC’s Outstanding Registered Apprentice for 2024, shared his personal journey and offered valuable insights into the impact and importance of apprenticeship programs.

“We’re excited for Robeson Community College as we continue to grow and advance their registered apprenticeship program,” Jill Hendrix, ApprenticeshipNC consultant, shared her enthusiasm for the program. “It’s a win-win for both the community and local employers.”

These remarks echoed the shared commitment among partners to invest in training pathways that prepare RCC students for meaningful careers.

As Robeson Community College continues to grow its apprenticeship initiatives, events like this luncheon emphasize the institution’s impact as a driving force for economic development and workforce readiness for our students, accordig to event orgznizers. RCC welcomes organizations and local employers interested in cultivating skilled talent to explore the programs available.
