LUMBERTON — Fairmont will kick off Robeson County’s Fourth of July celebrations tonight with music and fireworks at the town’s Community Park.

The free event will include a fireworks display and a performance by The Pizazz Band, which plays soul, funk, beach, country and rock music.

The concert will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. Food and drink vendors will be at the event.

The Lumberton Community Relations committee will hold its Family Fourth event on Thursday at Lumberton Senior High School. Entertainment, including a performance by The Radio Narks and the All Veteran Parachute Jump Team, begins at 7:30 p.m. The fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m. Victoria Huggins, Miss Greater Southeastern, will sing the national anthem.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the event is free. The Lumberton High School marching band and other vendors will be selling concessions inside the stadium.

In St. Pauls, the holiday will be marked with an annual fireworks show beginning at nightfall on Saturday. The free event will be held behind the Piggly Wiggly on U.S. 301.

St. Pauls firefighters raise money for the show every year and are in charge of the pyrotechnic display. Vendors are expected to set up shop with cotton candy, funnel cakes and fried snacks and a deejay will spin classic and current tunes. The event is free.

In Pembroke, the 47th annual Lumbee Homecoming will go out with a bang with a fireworks display on Independence Day on Saturday. The light show will start at 9 p,m. outside the Lumbee Regional Development Association complex on Prospect Road.

Parkton will also hold its 54th annual celebration on Saturday with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. in the town square.

A parade will begin 11 a.m., and will be followed with food, entertainment, games and other activities. The event is hosted by the Parkton Ruritan Club.
