Man flees nakedwhen bond denied

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies in Cumberland County are looking for a man who ran from the courthouse, stripped naked and jumped into a fast-moving creek after learning his bail would be revoked during a pre-trial hearing.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office told local media outlets that deputies are concerned for the man’s safety after he was swept away by the current in Cross Creek.

Ronnie Mitchell, legal adviser for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, said 19-year-old Jacquail Amear Clemmons was waiting in the courthouse Wednesday. When a deputy went to serve him a warrant, Mitchell said Clemmons ran, taking off his shirt as he left the courthouse. Mitchell said he took off the rest of his clothes before he jumped into the creek.

Clemmons was facing a breaking and entering charge.
