LUMBERTON — The FEMA Cumberland County Disaster Recovery Center in Fayetteville will close Feb. 2, rather than Thursday.

“Visits to the center remain steady so we have decided to give survivors of Hurricane Matthew additional time to go to the center, where they can get their questions answered by both FEMA and SBA representatives and check on the status of their recovery applications,” said Nathan Custer, a Federal Emergency Management Agency spokesman.

The hours of the center at the Cumberland County Department of Social Services, 1225 Ramsey St. in Fayetteville, are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Robeson County Disaster Recovery Center in the old Kmart building at 2750 N. Roberts Ave. in Lumberton will remain open until further notice with the same operating hours.

There is also a Disaster Recovery Center in Edgecombe County. It is at that county’s Health Department at 3003 N. Main St. in Tarboro.

Through Sunday, there have been 4,715 visits to the Fayetteville center and 7,161 visits to the Lumberton center.

Anyone seeking help related to Hurricane Matthew can do so by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency Helpline at 800-621-3362 for voice, 711 and Video Relay Service. If a person is deaf, hard of hearing or has a speech disability and use a TTY, call 800-462-7585.

Monday was the last day to register for assistance through FEMA. People who are registered with FEMA are encouraged to keep in touch with FEMA and call the Helpline with any questions.

If a person requires a reasonable accommodation (American Sign Language interpreting, Braille, large print, etc.) while visiting a recovery center, call the appropriate Helpline number listed above for support. These toll-free numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
