PARKTON — The person killed in a single-vehicle accident Sunday night near Parkton has been identified as Dekotah Paul Ware, according to a state Highway Patrol spokesman.
The cause of the accident in which 25-year-old Ware, of Parkton, is not known, Sgt. K.E. Herring said Tuesday. But investigators suspect Ware was impaired.
According to a report by Highway Patrol Trooper M.J. Miles, Ware was driving a 1992 Ford pickup west on Canady Road near Parkton about 11:24 p.m. when the vehicle exited the road to the left, struck a ditch and then hit a power pole, trapping Ware inside.
A single-vehicle accident on March 28 killed a Lumberton resident, Sgt. Herring said. Phillip Rhyne Herring, 34, died March 29 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center from injuries suffered in the accident that took place about 9:39 a.m. on Green Springs Road.
Herring was driving a 2011 Ford pickup truck east on Green Springs Road when the truck left the road to the right and stuck a tree, Sgt. Herring said. The patrol believes excessive speed caused the accident.
