LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man is charged with murder after an argument over his mother ended in gunfire and the death of his stepfather.

Cortny Danielle West, 30, of East 13th Street in Lumberton, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Ramon Garcia, of Shannon, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

An argument broke out between West and Garcia over Garcia’s wife, who is West’s mother, according to Thompson. The argument turned physical, and West pulled out a handgun and shot Garcia.

Deputies were called to Garcia’s residence on Jacquelyn Avenue at 6:12 a.m. Sunday to find Garcia dead on the walkway in the front yard.

West was jailed under a $250,000 bond.
