The Public Schools of Robeson County honors the legacy of Mike Smith, the longest-serving board member on the Board of Education for the Public Schools of Robeson County. Mr. Smith passed away recently surrounded by family members and friends.
Smith served from 1990-2023 as a school board member. Smith worked faithfully during his tenure as a board member and his decisions were driven by his love for his community and his commitment to the children of the Public Schools of Robeson County.
Smith served as chairman and leader of multiple committees during his time as a member of the Public Schools of Robeson County Board of Education. He also was very involved in his Red Springs community, serving as a member of various civic groups.
Smith graduated from Red Springs High School in 1976 and was a star athlete during his time there.
Over the years, he has been a tireless supporter of the Red Springs High School Athletic Complex project. His support and efforts have made a significant impact on the project. He has attended countless sporting events and shared encouraging words with several athletes over the years.
The Mike Smith Football Stadium, which will be located in the Red Springs High School Athletic Complex, will serve as a testament to Smith’s legacy, impact, and commitment to the Red Springs community and to PSRC students as a whole.
The Public Schools of Robeson County extends its deepest sympathy to the family during this time. The district, its leaders, and students are better for knowing Mr. Smith and for his decades of work to benefit students and move the school district forward. May Mr. Smith’s family take comfort in his legacy, integrity, and strength, knowing that his influence will live on in the many lives he touched.
