LUMBERTON — Opportunities for certification in the proper handling of pesticides are upcoming.

Pesticide recertification credit opportunities are scheduled from 1 until 3 p.m. on July 18 and again on Sept. 26 at the O. P. Owens Agriculture Center, 455 Caton Road, Lumberton, according to Mac Malloy, Robeson County Cooperative Extension Service.

Both training opportunities will provide recommendations for ways to achieve optimum results from a pesticide application. Participants will get to see a sprayer calibration demonstration as well as learn the proper procedure to decontaminate personal protection equipment and application equipment. Each training is approved for two hours of category A, B, D, G, H, I, K, L, M, N, O, T, and X credit.

Also on July 18 there will be private applicator recertification V training offered from 3 until 5 p.m. at the Owens Center; and on Sept. 26, the training will be held from 10 a.m. until noon.

Both training opportunities will provide private applicators with an update on new label changes and restrictions, an update on the 2015 Worker Protection Standard revisions that became effective at the beginning of the year, proper chemigation setup and use, and ways to protect pollinators. Each training is approved for two hours of category V credit.
