Metcon VP gets state role

RALEIGH — Sen. Phil Berger recently appointed the executive vice president and chief operating officer for Metcon Inc. to the State Building Commission.

Sam Isham will join the commission created within the Department of Administration to develop procedures to direct and guide the state’s capital facilities development and management program. The commission is a statutory body empowered by Public Law to perform duties with regard to the State’s Capital Facilities Development and Management Program and the State Construction Office.

Isham leads construction operations at Metcon, where he has been employed since 2005. He is a fifth-generation builder and is a graduate of both Syracuse University and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He has degrees in Construction Management and Business.

The commissioner is responsible and accountable for the final selection of the designers and construction managers at risk for state-owned projects. Isham fills the seat vacated by Metcon’s Chief Executive Officer Aaron Thomas, who served two terms, including two years as chairman.
