CARY — The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina recently named Owen Thomas, a senior account executive with Dial Insurance Agency in Pembroke, the 2018 IIANC Young Agent of the Year.

Selected annually, the award recognizes the independent insurance agent under 41 years of age from across the state who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and performance for his agency, association, industry, community and family. The award was presented to Thomas during IIANC’s 121st Aannual Convention held Oct. 21 through 23 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Thomas is currently serving as vice chairman of IIANC’s iLEAD Committee, which represents young insurance professionals in the association by organizing leadership, networking and educational opportunities for career and personal development.

Thomas graduated from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke with an undergraduate degree in Business and also earned his masters in Business Administration there. Since 2015, he has served as an adjunct professor in the UNC Pembroke School of Business in addition to his insurance career with Dial Insurance Agency.

A member of the iLEAD Committee since 2014, Thomas also serves as vice chairman of the IIANC Member Services Inc. board and is a member of the association’s Government Affairs Committee.

Thomas is a Lumberton city councilmember, on the board for the Kiwanis of Robeson, is president of the Robeson County Humane Society, and immediate past president of the UNC Pembroke Alumni Association. He is a member of St. Alban’s Lodge #114 of AF&AM and the Robeson County Shrine Club.
