ST. PAULS — Pizza Hut has opened an express location in St. Pauls.

Described as a Pizza Hut Delco Lite, the store is at 260-A Fifth St., across from the Lumbee Guaranty Bank. It will occupy one of the four bays that will comprise a new business center on South Fifth Street.

Delco Lites are smaller than Pizza Hut’s usual dine-in restaurants, and serve strictly as locations for carryout and delivery. The new stores are part of the company’s new business strategy to open more locations and turn a faster profit with comparably low overhead. The name “Delco Lite” is shorthand for the words “delivery” and “carryout.”

J.R. Steigerwald, St. Pauls town administrator, said that the residents seem eager to receive pizzas deliveries straight to their doors.

“We didn’t have a delivery pizza service in town that I am aware of and now we have two with the new Dominos,” Steigerwald said. “We have some places that sell pizza, but this is not an eat-in situation. From the town’s perspective, the creation of new jobs is good news as well.”

The St. Pauls Pizza Hut is open Sundays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

For delivery or carryout orders, call 910-865-2475.

The franchise, which was founded in 1958, has more than 11,000 locations worldwide, and has since its opening expanded its menu to include more than just pizza. Among the other items the restaurant serves are Buffalo wings, pasta and speciality pizzas, including a stuffed-crust pizza.

There is also a Pizza Hut Delco Lite at 2763 W. Fifth St. in Lumberton.
