PEMBROKE — The Lumbee Tribe will hold the 2017 Lumbee Nation Economic Summit on May 24 and May 25 on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

In addition to the Lumbee Tribe, the summit is being hosted by U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, of North Carolina, UNCP, and the North Carolina Military Business Center.

According to a flier announcing the summit, it will focus on business activities that have come about as a result of the massive destruction resulting from Hurricane Matthew and the ongoing recovery efforts.

The summit will include numerous workshops and provide the opportunity for participants to network with members of the U.S. Congress, tribal leaders, federal, state and local officials, top tier business leaders, business school and occupational practitioners, and highly successful entrepreneurs. There will also be a tradeshow, traditional American Indian food sampling, and an American Indian artisan market.

According to the flier, the summit is “strongly supported by federal and state officials and is a conduit to today’s and future new American Indian enterprises.”
