CHERRY HILL, N.J. — A Lumberton resident is a recipient of a $2,000 scholarship awarded by the Scholarships for Military Children Program.
Lauren Rhoades is the daughter of Warren Rhoades II and Wanda Rhoades. She plans to enroll at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Lauren was one of 5,000 students who applied for the scholarships at commissaries around the world and was awarded her scholarship at the Fort Bragg South commissary. Hers was one of 700 scholarships awarded.
The program was initiated in 2000 to award scholarships to graduating high school seniors or college-enrolled students. It is open to qualified sons and daughters of members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including active duty, retirees, National Guard members and reservists, and children of deceased military personnel.
