LUMBERTON — Lori Locklear and Larry T. Brooks were named last week the top teacher and top principal, respectively, of the Public Schools of Robeson County.

Locklear and Brooks were among 44 educators to receive honors Thursday during the district’s Teacher and Principal of the Year Banquet.

Locklear teaches exceptional children at Fairgrove Middle School. She is in her 30th year with the district. Locklear also received a $250 check from Horace Mann Insurance.

Brooks is the principal at Red Spring High School, a post he has held for five years.

Both Locklear and Brooks will have a chance to travel with World View to a selected country to visit schools from other parts of the globe.

Each year, the Public Schools of Robeson County names a Teacher of the Year at each school and a Principal of the Year. Teachers at all 42 schools are asked to submit a portfolio. A panel of judges that includes the previous Teacher of the Year rates each portfolio. The top teacher is selected from the top five portfolios and interview.

The Principal of the Year is chosen by a vote from all the district school principals.
