RALEIGH — Fourteen Public Schools of Robeson County students recently won awards in the 2018 N.C. Reading Association Writing Competition.
The state winners were honored and awarded a medal at the N.C. Reading Association celebration at the Raleigh Convention Center in March. Their essays were published in the 2018 N.C. Reading Association Young Authors Book. The winning writing pieces published in the book are from counties throughout North Carolina.
Three of the students were from Union Chapel Elementary and 11 were from Lumberton Junior High. The students were selected as winners at the county level by the Robeson Reading Council judges for their competitive writing entries.
Of the 14 students who won at the county level, six students from Lumberton Junior High and a student from Union Chapel were selected as winners at the state level by the N.C. Reading Association state judges in Raleigh.
The 2018 Young Authors Theme was “Show Your Strength.” The competition was to encourage and inspire young authors to write about their personal experiences with perseverance, how they have overcome obstacles, how they found strength in a time of weakness and/or what inspired them to rise above a particular challenge.
