PEMBROKE — The University of North Carolina at Pembroke held a meeting Friday of the deans and directors from across the UNC System libraries.
This was the first time the University Library Advisory Council has met at UNCP. The council is composed of the directors of the 17 university libraries and a representative from the UNC System Office. Dennis Swanson serves as the dean of library services at UNCP.
“The University Library Advisory Council holds a deep commitment to system-wide sharing, collaboration and leadership,” said Jan Lewis, director of the Joyner Library at East Carolina University and president of the council.
“ULAC leverages its combined resources and expertise to advise the UNC System Office and to provide excellent and cost-effective collections, services, and technologies that stimulate creativity, learning, and scholarship. Meeting on campuses across the state helps us achieve this mission, as we learn about both the successes and challenges our members’ experience.”
One of the main objectives was to develop a strategic plan for all of the system libraries. Anne Moore, dean of the Atkins Library at UNC ,is leading this effort.
The meetings were held all day in the Chancellor’s Dining Hall. There was a working lunch with the deans of UNCP meeting with the council members. The council members also toured the campus and Livermore Library remodeling work.
