LUMBERTON — Kayli Gruver, a Lumberton High School graduating senior, is the 2018 recipient of the Jerry L. Long Excellence Scholarship.

The recipient must have completed the eighth grade at Littlefield Middle School, be in the top 25 percent of their graduating class, and have been accepted at a post-secondary school. Gruver met all requirements.

Gruver plans to attend Robeson Community College for her first two years to participate in the C-Step program and then transfer to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The scholarship is presented by Littlefield Middle School in honor of Jerry L. Long, who was principal at Littlefield when it was a high school. Littlefield became a middle school in the 1990s.
