LUMBERTON — Volunteers are being sought by the Robeson County Disaster Recovery Committee to help stage a mass event to mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Matthew roaring through the region.

Residents are needed to help form Robeson County’s first multicultural mass choir and a mass dance team to perform during a celebration, with teams performing at 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at Lumberton’s downtown plaza.

Choir volunteers can be ages 12 and older. Dance team volunteers can be ages 6 and older.

The choir will be directed by Stephen Love. David Spencer will be the music director, and Candace Joyner will be the dance choreographer.

The rehearsal dates and locations are: Monday at 6:30 p.m., First Baptist Church, located at 504 W. Second St. in Lumberton; Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m., Bethany Presbyterian Church, located at 700 E. Elizabethtown Road in Lumberton; Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m., The Rock Church of God, located at 2209 W. Carthage Road in Lumberton; and Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m., the Rock Church of God.
