Local ensemble testifies, entertains

LAKE WACCAMAW — The First Baptist Church of Lumberton’s Praise and Worship Ensemble recently performed at the Leamon Rogers Memorial Chapel at Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina.

“We are privileged to have our friends Jeff Prince and Rev. Tim Little bring their church ensemble to perform for us,” President Gary Faircloth said. “Jeff, Tim and their service clubs have been supporters of B&GH for a long time.”

Prince is a member of the Fair Bluff Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club of Robeson/Lumberton. Little is the president of the Kiwanis Club of Robeson/Lumberton.

The Praise and Worship Ensemble includes Little as vocalist and bass player, Ron Sanders on lead and acoustic guitar, Prince on drums, Denotra Power as vocalist and keyboardist, and vocalists Kim Gore, Melinda Frederick and Phyllis Gibson.

In addition to musical praise, the ensemble incorporated personal testimony and Bible lessons. A sleight of hand illusion got the attention of the youth in attendance as Sanders shared the parable of the lost coin.

“We all are found by the Lord who is seeking us,” Sanders said. “We just need to respond to His calling us.”

Boys and Girls Homes Pastor Joe Kennedy presented the group with an original work of art in appreciation of the ensemble’s performance.

“The painting represents Pentecost in the second chapter of Acts,” Kennedy said. “The colors represent the ‘tongues of fire’ and anointing of the Holy Spirit. In that same moment, everyone received the Paraclete Jesus had promised and understood one another.”

This was the third performance in a series of concerts presented this spring in the Leamon Rogers Memorial Chapel. Previous concerts were given by Sounds of Liberty from Liberty University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Psalm 100.

Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina, Inc. provides a comprehensive array of services for children and youth who have been removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect or other family dysfunction.
