Ex-county manager: We pursued back taxes

To the Editor,

I read in The Robesonian on June 10 the Our View that accused the county government and commissioners of not being aggressive in collecting delinquent taxes. From 2002 through 2010 while I was county manager, we were aggressive in garnishing wages, attaching bank accounts, setting up payment plans, and doing some foreclosures.

To the best of my knowledge, all unpaid taxes were published as is required by law.

I can’t speak for what happened before I arrived or after I retired. While I was county manager, taxes were collected and increased about 7 percent by 2007.

I just want people to know that things were done properly from 2002 to 2010 and commissioners did not actively try to do anything improper with collections during my tenure. I cannot speak to what has happened since my 2010 retirement.
