CROMWELL, Conn. — William McGirt will be playing in a PGA Tour event for the fifth consecutive week when he tees it up this week at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

Coming off a tie for 55th at the U.S. Open in Erin Hills, the Fairmont native, who celebrates his 38th birthday on Wednesday, will take on TPC River Highlands this week looking to make the cut in five of his last six events.

After missing the cut in his first two appearances at the Travelers, McGirt has made the weekend in his last three, including a tie for 25th in 2015. He finished tied for 31st in 2014 and tied for 30th in 2013.

Grouped with Jonas Blixt and Troy Merritt, McGirt tees off from the opening hole of the par-70, 6,841-yard track at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Last season, Jim Furyk made history at the course with a final-round 58 — the first in the tour’s history. He reeled off 10 birdies and holed out for eagle en route to setting the new mark.

Russell Knox is the defending champion of the event. Rory McIlroy and Jason Day are the top-ranked players in the field, along with Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Patrick Reed.
