LAURINBURG — Scotland running back Zamir White has committed to play football at Georgia, he announced Tuesday.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound rising senior is set to follow in the footsteps of Millbrook’s Keith Marshall, Tarboro’s Todd Gurley and Lumberton’s Tim Worley as the next great Bulldog running back from the Tar Heel State.
Dating back to 1999, White has the highest 247Sports composite rating of any running back out of North Carolina.
Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and North Carolina were in the mix to land White, with the Tar Heels making a late surge in hopes of landing their first commitment from a five-star prospect since Donte Paige-Moss in 2009.
White has visited North Carolina the most, followed by Georgia. His close friend and former Scotland teammate Jonathan Smith is an inside linebacker for the Tar Heels.
During his junior campaign, White finished with 189 carries for 1,774 yards and 27 touchdowns, leading Scotland to its sixth straight 4A Southeastern Conference championship. White has earned several postseason accolades, including the N.C. Gatorade Player of the Year, a spot on the MaxPreps’ Junior All-American team and a first-team selection for the 4A Southeastern Conference. He also earned a spot on the Associated Press’ all-state prep team.
National signing day is on Feb. 7, 2018.
