The Lumberton soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-1 victory over Gray’s Creek on Tuesday.
Rene Altamirano led the Pirates with a pair of assists, including a corner kick that was headed into the net by Kendric Perry for the go-ahead goal. Christian Santos netted the first goal for Lumberton, which will travel to East Bladen on Thursday.
Purnell Swett 2, Red Springs 1
The Purnell Swett soccer team improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 win over in-county rival Red Springs on Tuesday.
Pacey Brooks and Jesus Mendoza scored one goal each for the Rams, with Jafet Robles logging an assist.

Kiara Page led the Lady Golden Tornadoes with 14 digs, 12 kills and five assists. MacKenzie Johnson added 22 assists and Kaylee McMillian logged 20 digs. Maya Bellamy finished with 10 kills.
