Pirates fall in state playoffs

CHARLOTTE — The Lumberton boys soccer team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday night in a 6-0 loss to South Mecklenburg in the first round of the NCHSAA 4-A state playoffs.

The 23rd-seeded Pirates were the only Robeson County team in the state playoffs and finish their season with a 16-7 mark.

No. 10 Sabres (13-4-3) will face No. 7 South Caldwell (10-5-3), which received a first-round bye, on Saturday in the second round.

Pembroke advances to title game

PEMBROKE —Behind a monster game from running back Hezekiah Bullard, the Pembroke Middle School football team earned a 32-0 victory over Fairgrove on Wednesday, securing a spot in next week’s title game.

Bullard ran for 136 yards and three touchdowns to pace the unbeaten Pembroke squad, which will face Lumberton Jr. next week at Purnell Swett. Lumberton Jr. earned a 20-12 win over Orrum.
