LUMBERTON — Rene Altamirano was named the Sandhills Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year for his outstanding season on the pitch for the Lumberton soccer team.

The senior forward netted 30 goals and finished with 68 points for the Pirates, who finished the year with a 16-7 mark and finished behind Jack Britt and league champion Pinecrest.

Altamirano was one of five Pirates to earn all-league honors. C.J. Nemeroff, Cole Lewis, Kendric Perry and goalkeeper Joan Carrillo joined Altamirano on the all-SAC squad.

Pacey Brooks, a defender for Purnell Swett, was the lone representative for the Rams.

Pinecrest led the way with seven selections, including co-player of the year Haden Smith.

Each of Robeson County’s all-conference selections were named to the all-region squad.
