ROCKINGHAM — The Lumberton wrestling team opened its season with a win in the Raider Rumble at Richmond on Saturday.
The Pirates topped Asheboro, Southwestern Randolph, East Montgomery, Richmond and Scotland in dual matches to claim the title.
Freshman 170-pounder Dariente Mclaurin was named MVP of the event after going 3-1 for the day, including a pin against Asheboro.
The Pirates return to action today at the West Brunswick quad match.
Purnell Swett wrestlers win at Pine Forest
FAYETTEVILLE — Behind four individual champions, the Purnell Swett wrestling team won the team title at the Fued in the Forest at Pine Forest on Saturday.
Will Deese won the 132-pound title, Rommie McNeill won the 145-pound title, Millard Locklear won the 195-pound title and Rayshawn Baker won the heavyweight title. The Rams also had three runner-up finishes.
Purnell Swett will also travel to the quad match at West Brunswick today.
