Palm Harbor, Fla. — After sitting out a week as the PGA Tour went south of the border to the WGC Mexico Championship, Fairmont native William McGirt returns to the course and joins the field at the Valspar Championship, hoping to end a streak of missed cuts at the event.

This is McGirt’s first time playing the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort since the 2015 season. At the tournament, he has made the cut once in five appearances. The lone cut made came in 2012, when she finished a tie for 29th. He has missed his last three cuts at the event since then in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

McGirt is paired with Rod Pampling and Stewart Cink for the first two rounds. The group tees off from the first tee at 7:34 a.m. tomorrow and the 10th tee at 12:24 p.m. for Friday’s second round.

Leading into this event, McGirt has made the cut in six of his eight events, with a pair of top-10 finishes at the Sanderson Farms Championship in October and the RSM Classic in November. At the Honda Classic in his last outing, McGirt came in a tie for 33rd at the Honda Classic.

McGirt sits at 84th in the FedEx cup rankings heading into the Valspar Championship.

Tiger Woods returns to the course this week as well and is grouped with Henrik Stenson and Jordan Spieth. Adam Hadwin is the defending champion of the event.
