McGirt sits 6 strokes back at Valspar Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Using a four-hole stretch on the back nine where he shot 5 under, Fairmont native William McGirt turned his round around to put himself in a tie for 18th heading into today’s final round at the Valspar Championship.

McGirt is at 3 under for the tournament after shooting a 2-under, 69 on Saturday.

Making the turn at 2 over after back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 5 and 6, he had three straight birdies on Nos. 11 to 14 and then an eagle on the par 5 14th hole. Another birdie came on No. 16 to put him at 3 under for the round, but then dropped a stroke on the closing hole.

He tees off with Luke List in today’s final round at 12:30 p.m. and is six strokes off the lead.
