FAIRMONT — The West Bladen softball team scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the lead Fairmont built to earn a 10-9 win at home.
The Lady Golden Tornadoes (5-6, 6-4 TRC) scored eight runs in the first four innings to build an 8-3 lead heading into the fifth inning. Leading the way at the plate for Fairmont was Kaylee McMillan with two hits and two RBIs, Emma McMillan with three hits and an RBI, and Mackenzie Johnson and Mya Hunt both with two hits and an RBI each.
Kaylee McMillan also struck out four batter to be the winning pitcher.
For West Bladen (6-5, 6-4 TRC), Abby Dawson had a pair of RBIs, Alara Cashwell had three RBIs and Carly Dawson and Kyla Reed each added an RBI.
The Fairmont baseball team picked up a 12-5 win over West Bladen.
Seth Thorndyke got the win on the mound and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a homer and 5 RBIs. Randy Floyd had two hits and two RBIs.
Other scores from the Three Rivers Conference, West Columbus baseball topped South Robeson 12-2 and Whiteville blanked Fairmont in boys tennis 9-0.
Early deficit too much for Lady Rams
PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett girls soccer team saw its rally fall short after falling behind three goals to Richmond on Wednesday night, losing 4-2 at home.
Chloe Wiggins, Jayana Nicholson and Jessi Graham found the back of the net for Richmond in the first half, and the Lady Rams benefited from an Abi Lowry goal to put them on the scoreboard.
Maddison Oxendine scored a late goal for Purnell Swett that closed the deficit to 4-2, but Richmond prevented the Lady Rams from making a comeback.
