PEMBROKE — Longtime basketball coach and athletics director Dan Kenney will be the celebrity guest for the UNC Pembroke athletics department when the Braves host their sixth annual Cash Bash presented by Scotland Health on April 20 inside the English E. Jones Center.
Tables for the event can be purchased for $1,000 and features priority seating for eight, dinner with a coach or student-athletes, video board signage, individual or business listing and a raffle entry for each guest. Individual tickets can be purchased for $125. The event will feature entertainment, live and silent auctions and a catered meal with an open bar.

Tabbed “A Toast To Dan Kenney,” the event will honor one of the longest-tenured basketball head coaches and athletics directors in the history of the department. Kenney, who recently retired after serving as the chief of staff in the chancellor’s office for since 2013, compiled 124 victory as UNCP’s men’s basketball coach from 1985-92 and served as the skipper of the department from 1998-2013.
The Cash Bash is one of the department’s premier fundraising events that benefits the Braves Club scholarship fund. Proceeds from the event support all 16 varsity athletics programs, as well as nearly 400 student-athletes. The event has been the main source for athletic scholarship fundraising, and has brought in more than $318,000 in thelast six years.
“The Cash Bash has become a signature event for our programs and is something that we hope will springboard our fundraising events into the future,” said UNCP Director of Athletics Dick Christy. “It is a great chance for current and prospective donors to get involved, have fun and meet some of our coaches, staff and student-athletes.”
Preliminary live auction items include two premium tickets to UNC’s basketball matchup with NC State next season inside the Dean E. Smith Center, as well as a VIP experiences to a select NC State basketball and football game during the 2018-19 season. Tickets to the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600, the NASCAR Monster Energy All-Star Race and tickets to the practice round for the 2019 Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club.
