LUMBERTON — Three players from Robeson County teams were selected to the Sandhills Athletic Conference all-conference team, the league announced on Monday.
Purnell Swett’s Braydon Scott and Jeremiah Locklear and Lumberton’s Kris Allen were picked among the top players in the conference this season.
After losing their first 12 games, the Rams used the guidance of Scott at the plate and Locklear on the mound to turn around and win 10 of the next 13 games.
Scott, a senior outfielder, was the spark plug and table-setter for Purnell Swett and led the team in hits, triples and batting average. He also finished second on the team with 15 RBIs.
Locklear shook off a rough start to the season with three losses in his first four appearances to pick up three wins over the last half of the season and drop his ERA on the season to 1.98. He struck out 36 batters in 46 innings pitched this season.
Allen hit .271 at the plate for the Pirates, and finished the year leading the team in home runs, triples, doubles, RBIs and runs scored.
Pinecrest, the conference regular season and tournament champs, had the Player and Coach of the Year in the conference in senior pitcher Nick Pry and coach Jeff Hewitt.
