GREENSBORO — Robeson County will be well-represented at the Powerade State Games next week in Greensboro.
High school athletes and coaches from the region will be participating in some events offered at the Olympic-style State Games.
Zack Carter of South Robeson and Jaylen Mack of Red Springs will play on the Region 4 baseball team under the guidance of Fairmont head coach Sandy Thorndyke and Scotland head coach Chad Hill. They will be playing from June 13-17 at UNC Greensboro and Grimsley High School.
Four county players will compete in the the softball tournament, which will take place from June 19-24. Brianna Brewer from St. Pauls and Katlyn Jones from Purnell Swett will join Lumberton’s Morgan Britt and Kasey West on the Region 4 team. The team will be coached by Whiteville’s Olivia Scott and Lumberton’s William Britt. Softball games will be played at UNCG and Carolyn Allen Park.
The Purnell Swett girls soccer team will be represented at the State Games for the first time ever. Abi Lowry, Maddison Oxendine, Layla Locklear, Ashley Locklear and Jada Jacobs will play on the North Team from June 16-17.
Lumberton’s Logan Cameron and Sallee Jones were also selected for the North Team. Cameron will sit out due to injury.
Purnell Swett boys soccer player Nick Ramirez will represent the Rams on the Central team. All soccer games will take place on the campus of UNCG.
