CROMWELL, CT. — After sitting out the US Open last week for the first time since qualifying for the event in 2016 and 2017, Fairmont native William McGirt returns to the course this week for the Travelers Championship this week.
The tournament, that is being contested at TPC River Highlands, has provided McGirt with positive results in the past.
In his previous six appearances, he finished in a tie for 43rd in 2017, a tie for 25th in 2015, a tie for 31st in 2014 and a tie for 30th in 2013. He missed the cut in 2011 and 2012.
In 20 career rounds in the tournament, McGirt is 19 under par.
He plays the first two rounds with Rod Pampling and Wesley Bryan. The group tees off the 10th tee at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Jordan Spieth is the defending champion of the event. He plays with Marc Leishman and Russell Knox in the first two rounds, and will open the tournament from the first tee at 12:50 p.m.
McGirt currently is 108 in the FedEx Cup points standings and is No. 171 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
