County championship registration under way

Registration for the 38th annual Robeson County Golf Championship presented by Dial Insurance on July 20 to 22 at Pinecrest Country Club has started.

The deadline to enter is July 17, or when the first 120 paid entries are received.

There will be six divisions for this year’s championship. The cost for the championship division that will play all three days is $90. The regular, senior, super senior and ladies divisions will be $60 a player, and the juniors is $25.

The super senior and juniors divisions will play play on July 20 and 21, while the regular, ladies and senior divisions play on July 21 and 22.

All amateurs 13 years old or older as of July 20 can play for the championship, regular or ladies divisions. Anyone under 16 years old can compete in the juniors division. Participants must be over 55 to compete in the senior division and 65 or older for the super senior division.

Food and drinks will be served on the course for all rounds, with trophies given out to division winners and certificates given to winners of each flight. The top finishers will automatically qualify for the Highlander Cup against Cumberland County in October.

A complete entry form and fee must be mailed to the Robeson County Golf Association at P.O. Box 1814, Lumberton, N.C., 28359.

Fairmont’s week in review

John Haskins and David Hunt were the winners of this week’s Fairmont senior shootout, claiming a one-stroke victory over Bobby Benton and Mike Sellers. Ronnie Chavis and Knocky Thorndyke won the second flight, followed by Jim Rogers and DJ Jones. Mike Sellers and Bobby Benton were closest to the pin winners.

Top rounds posted this week include: Tad Wood 72; Mike Connor 73; Tim Moore 74; Donald Barnes 74; Dallas Arnette 75; Dennis Andrews 75; Roy Williamson 75; James Barron 75; Rick Rogers 77; Jeff Broadwell 77.

The next Thursday evening scramble will be played this with a 6 p.m. shotgun start. Please call the pro shop at 910-628-9931 by Wednesday afternoon to sign up. This is a four-person captains choice format, with an entry fee of $15 for members and $20 for non-members. The Thursday evening scramble takes place on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Pinecrest senior shootout results

The Pinecrest senior shootout on Tuesday ended with Tim Moore and Ricky Rogers coming out on top of Tiger Willie and Willie Oxendine by a three-stroke margin.

The first flight winners were Vinson Chavis and Delton Burns over Jim Rogers and Brad Hayes.

Closest to the flag winners were Willie and John Haskins.

The next Pinecrest senior shootout will be Thursday with a 8 a.m. shotgun start

Prospect Methodist Church tourney decided by playoff

With three teams tied at 56 after the completion of play at the Prospect Methodist Church golf tournament at Pinecrest Country Club on June 8, the team of Nick Lowery; Chris Jackson; Gavin Locklear, Jarrett Sampson; Greg Bryant; Arlie Jacobs won by a scorecard playoff.

The closest to the hole winners were Todd Harris, Locklear, Ricky Harris and James H. Oxendine.

Royce McNeill tournament results

At the Royce McNeill scholarship golf tournament at Pinecrest Country Club last week, Ryan Bass, Greg Canal, Ronnie Hunt and Carlton Dial won with a 53.

They beat out Doug Baker, Greg Bryant, Gene Locklear and Arlie Jacobs by one stroke. Willie Jacobs, Clyde Jacobs, Joe Locklear and Johnny Bass came in third place with a 55.

Closest to the hole winners were: Willie Jacobs, Jonathan Blue, Joey Todd and Chris Jackson.

Danny Henderson won the men’s longest drive on hole No. 3, Katy Flax won the women’s longest drive on hole No. 8 and Oxendine won the senior longest drive on No. 18.

PAR Missions results announced

The team of Jimmy Blue, Robert Hunt, Willie Oxendine and Willie Jacobs won the PAR Missions golf tournament at Pinecrest last weekend with a 59.

Calvin Hammons, John Hammonds, Caleb McMillan and Marcus White shot a 62 to win the second flight. The third flight went to Randy Chavis, Kent Chavis, Timmie Stultz and Landon Lowry.

July Fourth Super Ball tourney returns

The four-man handicapped captain’s choice tourney is set for July 4 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Pinecrest Country Club.

Players can sign up individually or as a team. The cost is $40 a person and includes green fees, cart, beverages, mulligans, prizes and a cook out following play.

Clifford Bullard tournament scheduled

The 34th annual Clifford Bullard Memorial golf tournament at Pinecrest Country Club will be Sept. 27.

It will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start, with a rain date set for Oct. 4.
