FAIRMONT — South Columbus scored 40 points in the second half of its 61-26 win over Fairmont on the road Friday to stay perfect on the season.

The Stallions (6-0, 4-0 TRC) led Fairmont (1-5, 1-3 TRC) 21-20 in the second quarter before running off to win the Three Rivers Conference matchup.

Tate Lee had three rushing touchdowns in the win for South Columbus and totaled 197 yards on the ground, while Letrell Brown had two rushing scores.

For Fairmont, Jordan Water continued to carry the offensive load with 158 yards rushing and 76 yards passing. He had two rushing touchdowns, and also passed for two more to Jayvon Morris and Jahkeem Moore.

Fairmont plays at Red Springs next.

Rams shut down by Bucs

FAYETTEVILLE — Chandler Brayboy left his mark on Friday night’s game as the Purnell Swett senior playmaker returned a kickoff 90 yards for the only touchdown the Rams posted at Jack Britt in a 20-10 Sandhills Athletic Conference loss.

Brayboy was also a main source of offensive yardage for Purnell Swett (2-4, 0-3 SAC) with 69 yards of total offense.

Nick Ramirez had a 29-yard field goal as the only other scoring.

Michael Matthews had two rushing scores for Jack Britt (3-4, 2-1 SAC).

Pirates’ volleyball sweeps Purnell Swett

PEMBROKE — The Lumberton volleyball team avenged its loss to its rivals last week to earn a three-set victory over Purnell Swett on the road Friday.

Alexandria Simpson had a game-high 16 kills and four blocks to set the tone at the net for the Lady Pirates (12-7). Katie Kinlaw added six kills and Rachel O’Neil had five kills. Erin Maynor added 16 digs.
