CHAPEL HILL — Five Robeson County basketball teams were seeded in the NCHSAA state basketball tournament that starts on Tuesday.

Both teams from Lumberton, while boys teams from St. Pauls, Fairmont and South Robeson were placed in the field on Saturday.

Lumberton’s girls play at home on Tuesday in the first round when it hosts No. 21 Middle Creek. The Lady Pirates finished second in the Sandhills Athletic Conference regular season and tournament, and will be a 12 seed in the 4A East bracket.

St. Pauls also will be at home as the 16 seed in the 2A East bracket, and hosts No. 17 Dixon on Tuesday.

The Lumberton boys are the 20th seed in the 4A East and travel to No. 13 Garner Magnet in the first round.

After it looked as though the playoffs would be out of Fairmont’s reach during a rough start to the season, the Golden Tornadoes made the state playoffs and travel to No. 10 First Flight. The Three Rivers Conference tournament champs are the 23rd seed in the 2A East.

No. 21 South Robeson is in the playoffs for the first time in four years and travel to No. 12 Riverside on Tuesday in the 1A East first round.
