MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The UNC Pembroke track & field teams brought home two event titles and a new school record during Friday’s action at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championships on Friday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

Katie-Marie Sherlock crossed in a time of 56.24 in the women’s 400-meters to break her own record and punch her ticket to Saturday’s finals. Cole Thomas cleared 4.65 meters to take the event title in the men’s pole vault, while Trent Brown won six of ten events to tally 6,126 points and take first in the men’s decathlon.

On the women’s side, Comfort Agwu finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 39.05 meters with YaNelli Dawkins behind her in fifth with a distance of 38.46 meters. Sofia Skidmore turned in a personal-best time of 2:22.78 to place fifth in the prelims and qualify for Saturday’s finals.

Sean Townes took second in the 400-meter prelims with a time of 48.59, while Eli Pineda crossed in 15.31 to finish fifth in the 110-meter hurdles prelims. Calen McKinney placed sixth in the 200-meter prelims at 21.57 and eighth in the 100-meter prelims with a time of 10.61, with Brace Osewe finishing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 57.73. Townes, Pineda, McKinney, and Osewe all qualified for their respective event finals to take place on Saturday. In Friday’s finals action, Elijah Barnette took fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters to round out the top-five finishers on the men’s side.

After eight of 21 events scored, the Braves men’s squad sits in second place with 55 team points to trail only Mount Olive’s 82 points, while the UNCP women are currently in fifth with 20 team points. Mount Olive also leads the women’s side with 75 team points.

Both squads will be back in action Saturday for the final day of the championships, with field events slated to begin at 10 a.m., and track events set to begin at 11 a.m.

UNCP brought home two event titles during the first day of action on Thursday.

Norman Junker crossed in a time of 31:17.39 to take first in the men’s 10,000-meters, while Moureen Kimaiyo won the women’s 10,000-meters for the second straight season with a time of 38:07.81. Trent Brown also sits in first place after five events in the men’s decathlon with 3,265 points after taking event titles in the shot put and the 400-meters.

Calen McKinney qualified for Saturday’s 200-meter final with a time of 21.57, while Norman Junker (personal-best 4:00.06), Lucas Nervo (4:04.14), Jack Phieffer (4:02.43), and Antony Kigen (4:04.68) all qualified for Saturday’s 1500-meter final. Kelvin Kibet took fourth in the 10,000-meters at 32:29.85, with Jack Phieffer behind him in fifth with a time of 33:11.38. Gary Parker placed fourth in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 50.77 meters to round out the top-five finishers for the Braves.

After two of 21 events scored, the men’s squad sits in first place with 25 team points, while the women are currently in fourth with 10 team points.
