PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — William McGirt is looking forward to playing golf with an old friend this week in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

But don’t expect him to dance like his partner.

The Fairmont native will play alongside Alfonso Ribeiro, known best for his role as Carlton Banks on the ’90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” On the show, Ribeiro made “The Carlton” dance a cultural phenomenon.

“He (Alfonso) told me he was gonna make me do it,” McGirt quipped to The Robesonian. “I told him I’d toss him in the ocean if he did.”

McGirt made it clear he won’t be challenging Ribeiro to a dance-off, but he’s excited about the opportunity to hit the course with the actor again.

“Alfonso and I played together a few years ago at the Humana (Challenge) in Palm Springs and became pretty good friends,” McGirt said. “He called me about two months ago and asked me to play. (It) should be a lot of fun.”

The duo will be grouped with Justin Rose and singer-entertainer Justin Timberlake. They’ll tee off Thursday at 12:06 p.m. EST on No. 1 at Spyglass Hill.

McGirt finished in a tie for 21st last season in the event, with Brandt Snedeker winning the tournament for the second time in his career.

The star-studded field features top-ranked player Jordan Speith, No. 3 Jason Day, No. 6 Bubba Watson, No. 7 Rose, No. 8 Dustin Johnson and No. 9 Patrick Reed.

Bill Murray and Ray Romano will continue their run in representing the celebrities, but there are some new marquee names in actor Mark Wahlberg and country singer Toby Keith joining the field. Wahlberg is set to play with Watson and Keith is paired with Steve Stricker.

On the sports side, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will make his first appearance, as will the MLB’s American League MVP Josh Donaldson. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 49ers Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young and Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh — sure to be clad in khakis — are also in the pro-am.

The tournament features a 54-hole cut and is determined by low-60 scores and ties. Those finishing 61st to 70th will earn FedExCup points and official earnings, but will not play in the final round.

But all golfers included in the low 25 pro-am teams will compete to determine the champion of that competition, even if the pro missed the cut in the tournament.

Whether he finishes well on his own, or wins the team competition with Ribeiro, one thing is certain: McGirt won’t be dancing.
