Six Robeson County teams bound for NCHSAA basketball playoffs

LUMBERTON — The high school basketball season will continue for six Robeson County teams on Tuesday, with the Fairmont boys and Lumberton girls leading the way as the highest-seeded squads from the area entering the NCHSAA state playoffs.

Tabbed as the No. 2 overall seed in the 4-A East, the Lumberton (24-1) girls earned the highest seed in the county. Champions of the Southeastern Conference, the Lady Pirates will play host to No. 31 Wakefield in the first round.

Red Springs (20-5), the Three Rivers Conference tournament champion, is the No. 6 seed in the 2-A East and will host No. 20 Currituck County.

No. 27 Fairmont (12-12), making its first playoff appearance since 2013, will travel to No. 6 Northside-Jacksonville.

On the boys side, the Golden Tornadoes (23-4), champions of the Three Rivers Conference, earned a No. 5 seed in the 2-A East and will play host to No. 26 Currituck County.

St. Pauls (18-7), the No. 14 overall seed in the 2-A East, will host its first playoff game since 2013 when it welcomes defending 2-A champion Farmville Central to town.

No. 24 Red Springs (13-11) will travel to No. 11 North Pitt for its first-round game.
