MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fresh off posting the worst round in his seven seasons on the PGA Tour, William McGirt will look to bounce back this week in the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
The Fairmont native will take on Memphis’ TPC Southwind course in the final tune up before heading to Erin Hills for next week’s U.S. Open — the second major of the season. It will be McGirt’s second appearance in golf’s national championship.
McGirt has missed the cut in three of his five appearances at TPC Southwind. He finished in a tie for 32nd in 2014, with his best finish coming in 2012 (T13).
Grouped with J.B. Holmes and Peter Malnati, McGirt tees off Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time from the 10th tee box at Southwind. The par-70, 7,244-yard track features the par-3 11th hole, which draws comparisons with the famed 17th island-green hole at TPC Sawgrass.
Daniel Berger is the defending champion of the event, fending off Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Steve Stricker to claim his first PGA Tour title.
